I’d been having these thoughts about tumblr and Substack and the similarities and I love your take! I only ever used tumblr lightly back in the mid 2000’s and loved it. The fact it’s still going is amazing and maybe I’m inspired to get back on there.
as someone who’s also been on tumblr for 12 years, this is such a good and insightful comparison! for me the main difference is that substack encourages longform content, so people can be a lot more thoughtful. love the reminder of goncharov! 😂

don't get me wrong it's a dumpster fire in and of itself but seeing how other social media are regressing it feels like a luxury being there.
